DS-HD1 mechanical chime issues

Hey all, just installed the DS-HD1 which replaces a Skybell HD.

First I installed the power supply into the mechanical chime, which immediately only chimed on press, not release.
Then after installing the DS-HD1, I get no chime at all.

Replaced the transformer with a 24vac/20va and no change.


Any ideas? Can I run it without the power supply kit?

28v at transformer
19.8v when circuit closed

18.8v at chime with circuit closed

I assume somehow I fried my mechanical chime installing the Hikvision. Voltage checks out everywhere.
