Ever think the media blows things out of proportion?

I firmly believe that you can point to a single event that started "the great divide" in our nation. That was the creation of the 24hr news channel. Of course it was CNN that was first (June 1, 1980), but this isn't about the specific channel - they are all terrible - CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc. It's about the fact that suddenly news channels had 22 more hours that they had to fill with news and they also had to find a way to hold a viewers attention. Over time they learned the best way to do this is by being the first to break news and then sensationalizing it to hold the viewers attention. Unfortunately, that type of reporting eventually trickled down to the national network's and local network's news rooms too. The concept of the news reporter "working" a story for weeks to find the truth simply does not exist in today's news cycle. It's only reactionary news. There is no "confirming facts from two other sources", or any attempt to find the truth. It's lead to a culture where there is no "fair and balanced" news anymore, anywhere.

Gun violence is HUGE in the news right now. The news channels talk about it being a "National Crisis" but fail to mention that gun violence is lower now than it was in the 70s. Did anyone care about gun violence in the 70s? Was anyone actually fearful of loosing their life to gun violence? No! Because it wasn't on the news every second of every day. But they push that agenda because it's what their viewers want and it has resulted in a large number of people honestly believing that more restrictive gun laws is the only way to feel safe. The truth is that more laws won't keep you any safer and might actually put you at risk. You are demanding that people to put their safety in the hands of the police instead of being able to protect themselves. Isn't it counter intuitive that many of the same people that wanted to "defund the police" now demand that you to rely on the police for your safety? Besides, the old saying "When seconds count, help is minutes away" has never been more true as it took 75 minutes in Uvalde to neutralize the shooter. You really want to know why school shootings are more prevalent now than in the past? It's because the news channels will talk about them 24 hours a day for weeks and months after each one. There is no faster way to become infamous and the typical school shooter (who is an outcast with mental and/or impulse control issues) understands and craves this.

And just to make sure that I don't come across as a right wing radical for that statement, the whole concept of the "stolen election" was pushed by the right leaning news agencies without any shred of evidence (because there is none). You can recount the ballots all you want and you are going to come up with the same election result every single time (which they did). The news agencies pushed it because they know that's what their viewers wanted and it has resulted in a large number of people honestly believing that the election was stolen and that Trump really should have won the election. So much so that a mob stormed the Capital on Jan 6th, 2021 in a clear act of insurrection (the definition of insurrection is "a violent uprising against an authority or government"). The truth is that Trump lost the election fair and square and there is no "rampant voter fraud" issue that needs to be addressed.

There, I've made just about everyone mad with those two statements......

The point I'm trying to make is that the crap being peddled on the 24 hr "news" channels is what is dividing our country...... and if your initial reaction to either of those statements was strongly negative, then you have just proven my point.

Main Stream Media is just complete garbage now .. all helping to divide us ..

Just the term "gun violence" is a total pile of BS and a major gaslight. I've owned guns all of my adult life, and even had guns as a teenager Not once, ever, did a gun get violent on me and shoot someone. The only time they even came close was in my hand poking holes in paper or harvesting food. The violence is committed by humans, not an inanimate object. Why not talk about automobile violence when a driver kills someone or baseball bat violence when someone gets beaten to death with one?
