External mic setup for HIKvision DS-2CD2645FWD-IZS

What is the trick to get an external mic to work with RTSP on an HIkvision camera (DS-2CD2645FWD-IZS)

It has 3.5mm audio input and output ports.

Connected a standard lapel type mic with 3.5mm jack to audio input.
Set Video Type to Video&Audio on main and substream.
Audio Encoding is G.711ulaw
Audio input is MicIn

RTSP in OBS does not show any audio.

Any advice?

Won't work.
Lapel mics are usually paired with a body pack wireless tx or connected directly to some type of preamp (phone, laptop, mixer, etc.).
Search for Audio Surveillance Mics or similar.

It's a 'Lapel type' mic - small size with std 3.5mm jack.

It works as a mic input on a PC.

A camera is not a PC. A camera requires an amplified microphone.
