5442 ZE for Overview
plates I get at night
So I assume you all have another camera doing the job of Identifying the Make and model of the vehicle as well?
Like bigredfish shows a video of a vehicle.

If you had to id the car whats your process? The picture of the plate is just a plate. I would think you could use time and place. Seems you would want more info as well.

Do you all use the Blue Iris Mobile App? I would like to have one app that is good for all my cameras. I couldn't find a review.

That is correct. Regarding plates, keep in mind that this is a camera dedicated to plates and not an overview camera also. It is as much an art as it is a science. You will need two cameras. For LPR we need to OPTICALLY zoom in tight to make the plate as large as possible. For most of us, all you see is the not much more than a vehicle in the entire frame. Now maybe in the right location during the day it might be able to see some other things, but not at night.

At night, we have to run a very fast shutter speed (1/2,000) and in B/W with IR and the image will be black. All you will see are head/tail lights and the plate. Some people can get away with color if they have enough street lights, but most of us cannot.

And then another camera gets the color and type.

I use BI.

Bigredfish uses an NVR.

See this thread...

I have at least one camera in color also seeing the vehicle.
The one you saw is running IR but there are two others that capture it in color just prior to it entering that field of view

Same at my other locations and my home. generally there are at least 3 cameras capturing the vehicle

An App is great for quick check of something when remote and push alerts.

Don't attempt to use a phone app for 100% of your needs. Its not made for that.

Buy a laptop. You'll need it to manage the NVR and cameras, as well as have a screen big enough to see details. Same with BI, a monitor hooked up to the BI machine

BI has an app and Dahua NVRs use the DMSS app

Its the same thing as the old saying about a pistol.
Its primary role is to buy me time to get to my rifle

The bottom, my house, those are Dahua 4K-X bullets. Andy sells them. He also sells the turret version 4K-T

The top is a big expensive PTZ along with 5442 ZEs. Plenty of streetlight light

Oh for sure I have plenty computers. I mostly need it so I can check on my cats while I am out of town.
Plus I have multiple brands of cameras so I want one app for them all. Instead of using the Amcrest, Dahua, or the Reolink. apps.

If you have a bunch of different brands of cameras, I'd recommend BI and its own app then

Yeah until replace all the bad ones with empire tech.

streetlight light
I don’t have a lot of street light light. What
would you recommend for the observe camera. Would the color 4k be good? Even though it doesn’t have ir?

For overview camera, you accept that you have other cameras to get the details, so you run it on default/auto settings so that you can get the color.

The 4K/T or T180 needs light, but not a lot in order to capture color of vehicles. If you have any house lights on at all or are willing to run the white LED, it would probably be enough.

But again, you have to accept that there will be blur because this is not set up to capture details.

My older 5442T-ASE-NI (great camera I wish they still made.) No IR but great image with just driveway coach lights and a street light 150ft away

Thats running 1/120

The License plate camera came today. I have to run some cat 6 for it and get it mounted. I will get it out of the box and updated.

Got the blue iris mobile app and all setup. It’s really great. Put it on the wife’s phone as well.
