Hello guys,
could you please help me to find out if there is newer FW for PC-HDB4200F-PT, currently on 2.420.0009.0.R, build : 2015-11-06. I know it is back from the past, but still works and I am happy with it. As FW now 6 years old, so might be some vulns in it and maybe there is DDNS to dahua and web interface which doesn't require any plugins.

Thanks

So you really need to ask yourself, why am I updating? If it is just for kicks, then stay with what is working.

A common theme around here is don't fix what ain't broke. If the unit is working and meets your needs, in many instances an update breaks what you had working and provides you with something you didn't need. A Dahua Z12E that someone updated and then constantly reboots comes to mind, and a certain Dahua PTZ that loses autotracking with an update come to mind, a Hikvision ANPR camera losing half the FPS and loses the ability to read US plates - those are big deals to have happen. Don't do it unless it is fixing a problem you are experiencing or adds a feature you really need.

Further, it is best to obtain any firmware updates from the vendor you purchased it from so that you do not run into issues. Any firmware you find here or elsewhere is obviously proceed at your own risk. We have many threads here where someone tried an update with a firmware they found on the internet and bricked their unit.

Many units being sold are Chinese hacked units that will either brick or go into Chinese upon updating. Some vendors will be upfront and tell consumers that as part of their website, but many do not or the consumer forgets...here is one such example....

Plug-ins are still needed and new firmware won't fix that, even on their brand new 4k camera on the 1/1.2" sensor. Someday maybe LOL.

@wittaj Thank for your advice.

As this camera is running remotely without NVR, I would like to have access to it through native dahua cloud service, but for now it doesn't support that. So was wondering if newer firmware has it. For now using no-ip.
Another thing about security, FW upgrades carries security patches as well, so if there is one which patches some holes, would like to upgrade as well.
So if there is none, Dahua released original FW, and mine is most current, will use it :thumb:

Yeah, I doubt the upgrade (if available) would provide what you are looking for.

There may be a security upgrade, but surveillance cameras are notorious for having horrible security and are slow to non-existent in patching vulnerabilities. So even if they have a patch, there are probably 12 other issues not addressed. Ironic isn't it.

Most of us do not have our cameras connected to the internet so that they cannot phone home nor have a security risk. We then VPN back into our system to view cameras remotely.

Here in Ireland it is bit tricky with reverse connection as mobile operators filtering traffic and cuts it in day or two, for now just no-ip helps.

Update:
In case someone is looking for P2P for this camera. You need to install CONFIG_General_WebEng_3.2.1.263030_General(P2P)_IPC-HX5(4)XXX-Adreia_V2.420.0007.0.R.20150525.bin, power cycle and it's there and working.
