I have a few new cameras that I am trying out. 2 x IPC-HDW5231R-ZE and 1 x IPC-HFW5231E-Z5E.

What is the best source for firmware for these?

Here?: Firmware section of the product page?
IPC-HDW5231R-ZE - Dahua Technology
IPC-HFW5231E-Z5E - Dahua Technology

It looks like these two cams use the same firmware, DH_IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea_EngSpnFrn_N_Stream3_V2.460.0000000.16.R.20170904

Is this a good version, or, is there a better version somewhere?

Thanks.

That's the best source I think (it is the manufacture ) Lots of Dahua cams use that firmware.

Keep in mind, if it's not broke don't fix it.
Understood. I would like to know that I am baselined with a good ver before I dive deeper into surveillance.

I presume there is a minimum recommended fw to be on. Is there a guide somewhere to which fw revs are recommended or not? I see a lot of discussion here about it. How many models will share a fw? I have 2mp epoe ecosavy and they share the same fw. Would this fw also be for other resolution epoe or other series? I guess I am curious which other models and fw discussions is relevant to mine.

The latest version's can always be found at the links you provided in your top post.
Most likely, the cameras you have where shipped with the latest firmware.
Yes, several cams share the same firmware.
Unless you are having a specific problem with the cams, leave the firmware as is.
