Thanks again but still out of my range, $45 + shipping to Thailand, add another $20 + shipping for a poe injector then I will probably already be close to my $100 budget and I don't have a camera yet.

Those VAP11G in the Ebay link would suit me better, if they work of course. I only need to cover about 20 meters to my wireless router which is outdoor point of view.

shrug, that dongle looks like a heaping pile of trash.. good luck.

Those dongles seem like time-wasters. Tempting to try but I bet they aren't reliable. Feel free to try them out and let us know how they work. Be sure to connect the cams to something like Blue Iris and look in the stats and count the disconnects.

If you want to go the Ubiquiti route, you can do 2 cams with 3 radios, 3 cams with 4 radios, etc or even multiple cams into a switch that's plugged into a radio . Use one radio at the switch/router as a hub and connect two or more cams with Nanos to the hub. In one location I've currently got 6 cameras running from two buildings with two Loco M2s to a single Picostation in another building for the hub. That building is wired to another that houses the Blue Iris computer. Then another building has a dedicated pair of Nanos to bridge it back through another link to the Blue Iris computer. Currently 8 cams, 6 buildings total, 5 Ubiquiti radios, one master router handling IP addressing. Only one cam with a wire straight back to BI. Could've done it with 4 but the dedicated bridge is important, plus it came first and I don't know how much data I can push through the Pico. No sense removing a dedicated bridge that's working well and adds to total bandwidth and reliability.

Oh, if you're budget is REALLY right, you can also connect a Ubiquiti radio to a camera and have the Ubiquiti connect to the router without a dedicated receiving Ubiquiti radio (long range client antenna). I don't recommend that route for reliability reasons though. A dedicated bridge between Ubiquiti products wired into the main router is better.

Here's the best guide I've seen to setting up the different kinds of links. Ubiquiti NanoStation M2 (2.4GHz) Wireless Bridge & WiFi AP

PtMP (Peer to Multi Peer) is the hub arrangement I was talking about in the last post. You don't need a Picostation for the hub. You can use Nanos as well, but realize that the antenna on a Nano is directional. Not like a laser beam, but still fairly directional. Don't expect great range behind or beside a Nano. The default antenna on a Pico is omni. Suitable for a central hub but not huge range. A Nano with LOS to another Nano can go miles with no troubles.

Hi Guys, sorry to resurrect this old thread, but had some other things to consider and didn't make the purchase yet.

Now I'm back in the market and i listened to your advice about the varifocal cameras.

Currently I'm going between 2 models, both about the same price, so would like to ask if anyone has experience with one of both.

IPC-HFW4431R-Z

IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS

Which one would be the better choice. As far as I can see they have about same spec, only the first one claims to have 80m IR range which sounds extreme to me.

Is there anything I overlook that would make one the better choice over the other? I personally would prefer the first one, as I think with dome camera you're a bit limited in pointing to the right direction, and may need an extra bracket because they are mounted to outside ceilings.

Edit : In the listing I saw was mentioned that the 1st supported memory card, which turns out to be incorrect, so it would be the dome camera then unless someone can point me to one the type of the first one that is varifocal and has memory slot.

I have both these cameras from Ali, (see my other posts)

first off the dome has a SD card slot (apart from mine was faulty as had no holder bracket) the bullet on the Chinese models doesn't

I do like the look of the bullet because its nice and big and obvious but I'm now more keen on the dome as the bullet keeps getting spiders webs across the front face (I have a problem with spiders webs at my place)

the dome does look nice too and it is easily adjustable in the axis (up/down and rotates, mine is mounted to the eves) but once you put the cover on you cant move it, you also cant see where it is facing unless you are up close and then you are probably being clearly recorded

In terms of picture quality I haven't really noticed a difference, the IR is more powerful on the bullet but I don't really need more than 10- 20m anyway

If I was to buy another it would be the dome

Other more qualified people on here have reviewed them both I think?

Thanks for the response.

I had a look at the review of the bullet camera and liked it even more, but I need the sd card, so I guess the dome will be my only choice.

Do you have the domes mounted out of the box, or did you add a surface mount?

I notice many on here order their camera's from Aliexpress, while I'm more familiar with Ebay, though I notice prices on the former are generally lower.

What do I have to watch out on Ali, like are there any recommendations for trusted sellers, or tips that I should heed?

Thanks in advance

I mounted the dome out of the box, but they come with raw plugs for walls which as useless for the boards under the eaves so I use the ramset toggles for plasterboards

I can only not recommend one seller on Ali (see my post) they sent me a faulty (firmware?) camera, I paid $36 AUD to send it back, they sent a another faulty one without a cover on the SD card slot, we have traded a lot of messages but as yet no refund - so I have given up with them

Thanks, that is also the main reason why I prefer Ebay sellers, as I can pay with Paypal which makes it easy to get a refund if there are issues.

But as I see Ali mentioned many times on here, may be someone else can recommend some sellers which who they repeatedly had positive experiences.

I bought my IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS from "visualexpert" on ebay. A little higher cost but I get them in about a week. They offer a discount for higher quantities.
