Firmware upgrade, empiretech cam - How? / Having Trouble connecting 180cam

Gotta figure the 180 needs more power than a regular camera -- there is 2 of everything and then a lot more going on with the internal processor

You could try an external power source if you have one...

@looney2ns warned me about switches.....
I don't want the wrath of Looney if i buy a " steamo" and it becomes a steaming pile.

So received 100 modular RJ45 connectors from Monoprice. Did not solve my connection problem with this particular camera.

Turns out the female camera RJ45 connector is bad.

I can make or break connections by wiggling the one factory patch cable that does work. When comparing the male RJ45 ends of the factory patch cable and the self made cables you can see a difference.
In a nutshell, if I didn't crimp a self made cable completely the pins would be able to make contact with the female pins in the camera connector.
This camera was a refurb. Now I'm wondering if the connector was the reason it was sent back and was never fixed. Could easily have worked for the repair guys. Depends on their patch cable.

I did send a message to Andy, I'll see what he suggests.

This camera has never been put into service by me. Just a run on my test rig for a few days coincidently with the only patch cable that works.
