Greetings forum members.
I've forgotten my recently hastily reset password.
I'm just using the NVR (that is, no PC, no internet connection to the NVR or cameras).
Question: Will a factory reset allow me to use defaults (admin, 12345)?
Seems too easy, compared to the very complicated solutions proposed on various websites (complicated for a novice, that is...).
I'm new to this; I haven't used SADP tool (I'm on a Linux desktop, so can't, presumably.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can do a factory reset (how do you plan to do that?) The nvr will revert to an ' Inactive' state where you can use SADP to create your own strong password.
There are no longer any default passwords in current Hikvision firmware.

Thanks Alistair. I'm using Linux desktop, and I gather that there isn't a Linux version of SADP.
When you ask: 'how do you plan to do that', are you indicating that a factory reset isn't any use without SADP? If so, what am I left with, given that I'm not using SADP/Windows...?
