Hi - I took a recommendation from the following thread and got a DS-2CD2432F-IW: https://www.ipcamtalk.com/showthread.php/5711-Difficulty-in-finding-the-IP-camera-that-I-need-any-advice-based-on-my-requirements?p=49757#post49757

I finally got around to plugging it in, and nothing seems to happen. I show no link on my router, and no lights on the camera? Do I have a defective camera or am I doing something wrong?

Thx in advance for any advice!!

@sk77289 You need to use a poe injector/switch or a 12v power supply. As with most POE cameras they generally do not come with a power supply.

Well I'm sure to sound like a noob over this one - I was hoping to power via POE, is there a special switch I need to throw on the camera for this, or do I need a special type of router to offer POE? The manual was a bit cryptic...

You need a poe injector or switch..a standard switch or router will not supply the power. http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1008P-100Mbps-8-Port-802-3af/dp/B003CFATT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1446581327&sr=8-3&keywords=poe+switch
