I do not have all the backstory on this, but the cops called me to see if my cameras caught a reported attack with a bat.

Sure enough, the cameras caught it.




The guy with the bat is clearly trying to hide his face as best he can. He never looks up, wearing that hoodie. Like really, who wears a hoodie when it is 104°F.

Yes, I have date/time (and it is accurate) but this video is cropped.

It was nice of the police to call me and tell me I missed something exciting on the cameras. I can only imagine how much crap goes on that I never see. I probably only see 1% of the stuff that goes on at that building.

Funny, there should be no expectation of privacy on a 'public' road, at least not here in most states of the U.S.
Now 'private' is another matter.

I was going to setup a LPR camera as i have the perfect view to catch registration plates (which are frequently asked for by the police) but then i did some reading and found out i would become a "Data Controller" and enjoy all the responsibility and cost that comes with it. No thanks.

I get enough spam/phishing calls, texts and emails without posting my contact info on a sign in my yard or on my property for all the world to see.

I can get away with some of my cameras viewing public footpaths because the majority of the image is my property so any complaint against me, I would be able to justify it as reasonable. Unfortunately the angle that the LPR camera would be at would mean that its blatently not for my property. Which is a crying shame. The number of car door checkers we get where they drive to the estate in a car, park it and wander around before driving right past in the car is massive. Of course, police and residents are always up in arms afterwards, "Did anyone get a number plate on their CCTV?" Nope... Thanks EU!

And these are where the laws are stupid and make no sense!! I can stand of the pavement / sidewalk all day with my camera are record any person / car / building and there is no law in the land that can challenge this... Put a camera of my house to do the same and the EU want to get involved with their stupid rules.. And this is why the UK left the EU.

So you can do it, but have to comply with their requests for erasure? You could hide it. No one would ever even know its there.
