Greetings! I just discovered this forum and I'm already learning a lot. I have a security camera system already, but I suspect I've made some mistakes, so I'll be revisiting it this year.

I have a dual system, indoor and outdoor. The indoor system is mostly Wyze cameras. I have grown a bit disillusioned with them, specifically after discovering that they can't be accessed via ONVIF without a beta firmware update (which I tried on one of them, didn't care for the results).

The outdoor system is Reolink. Mostly 5MP bullet cameras, with one optical zoom bullet camera. All mounted about 10 feet up, all POE. I've got some of them routed through my external garage, which has a Powerline connection to my server room in my home. It does actually work pretty well.

I failed to seal my ethernet terminations well enough when I put them up outdoors and a few have failed due to corrosion; my bad. However, that gives me an opportunity to revisit the entire setup.

Being a Linux geek, I tried various open source NVR solutions, but so far, I'm not thrilled with any of them. I don't really want to run Windows, but it seems Blue Iris is the way to go, so I may have to bite the bullet there.

I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from you all.

Welcome! I'm a diehard Linux user, as well. Like you mentioned, the open source NVR solutions for Linux are all lacking something. I like Frigate but it's lacking native PTZ control which I require for my setup.

Considering Blue Iris in the future. It is what it is!

Welcome @Bill Mattocks

Yes, it would be nice to see better Open Source VMS options ..

Good to revisit your setup .. di-electric gel will be your friend it seems .. also good opportunity to replace a few Reolinks with better cameras, and review that you're getting good angles on any facial ID captures you may attempt ..

Yes, mistakes were made. However, I am more than willing to learn. I want to improve my setup.
