Huh. First intro post disappeared....
After having some chainsaws stolen from our shed recently, I decided to add some security cameras (and a stronger shed lock!).
So far I've set up Blue Iris on an old i7-6700 w/2TB WD purple and 16GB RAM with a 256GB SSD boot drive. All good.
Have just finished wiring in my first IP cam today - a Hikvision DS-2CD2347G2-LSU/SL. Blue Iris is set up to record 640x480 24/7, then using Deepstack to detect motion it will switch to 4k recording of events.
It's all working very nicely and as expected.
However, I can't get the Hikvision's built-in security alarms to trigger. I'll post that issue in a separate thread - but it's an excellent learning experience so far, and a fun project to boot. Already gained at least one new skill - how to terminate my own cat6 cables.
EDIT: solved that issue - see below.
