Help Choosing PC For BI.

I’m new to this and after what feels like 50 hours of research on this forum I have decided to go with BI instead of an NVR. I have 4 cameras that I will be buying from Andy. And maybe 4 more later on. So about 8 all together in the end. But I would like some help in choosing a PC that will run these semelessly. Which one of these would you guys recommend and are they priced well? Open to other suggestions you guys might have. Thank you

FuQmonkey...this must be the gazillionth topic about which PC to purchase: go with the i7-6700 EliteDesk and purchase a Western Digital Purple to write BI video to. That processor will provide plenty of room for additional cameras (MP/s).

Yor welcome; read the Wiki. I run 27 cameras at work, with a 328MP/s load on an Optiplex i7-6700, At night time (running B&W with no activity) BI reports 10% CPU utilization. On a busy weekday with 10 cameras recording that will jump to 45% CPU utilization. Most of my cameras (a mixture of 2.1MP, 3.1MP, and 5MP) record at 4fps or 5fps. Most newbies think they need to run 30fps which -- for 8 4MP cameras -- would result in a load of 960MP/s (which would most likely overwhelm an i7-6700 cpu). A simple rule for calulating MP/s load is (No. Cameras x (Resolution x Frame Rate)). Therefore, resist the urge to run high fps and instead run your cameras at 10fps which -- for example -- would result in: (8 x (4MP x 10)) = 320MP/s. Such an example should result in CPU utilization commensurate with my Optiplex i7-6700.

Appreciate the info man, it’s a whole new world getting into this stuff haha. How much did you pay for your CP if you don’t mind me asking ?

I paid $680.00 back in May 2016 for a Dell Optiplex i7-6700 with 8GB and a muti-year warranty. I reconfigured the included 500GB SATA drive for Blue Iris video. I also added an additional 8GB of system memory for $35.00, a Samsung EVO 500GB SSD for $187.00...and later a 12GB Western digital Purple 12TB Surveillance Drive (WD121PURZ) for $450.00. Total cost: $1,352.00.

Very nice. Is this for your home setup or do you have a business ?
 
This is my home PC used as a personal PC (Excel, Photoshop, etc.) and as a Blue Iris server.

At the work I run a Optiplex 7040, 16GB, 256SSD with a 6TB WD Purple surveillance drive which is dedicated to Blue Iris.

Wow your home is very well surveillanced (if that’s a word) haha. How high up do you have your camera on your front door? As to capture faces and best over all surveillance. I’ll be installing a IPC-HDW5231R-ZE there.

Surveilled? Good equipment does not necessarily translate to good surveillance; my camera placements could be a heckuva lot better honestly. But hey, we learn and as a result of what we learn we improve.

About 70-inches off ground level.

70" is file for my installation, but my installation id appropriate for the construction of my home...I'll try to take a picture for you tomorrow.
