Help pick camera for facial recognition between 10-20ft

I have a T5442T-ZE varifocal that is waiting to be installed, so I propped it up on a shelf in the garage so you could see how it performs. Now I have not done anything to get the best possible exposure for this cam for this example. Everything is on default. But here are a couple of shots so you can compare to the 2431.



And one with the lights on just as I walked into the garage and was about to turn the lights off.

Here is a great example from a different thread that someone posted that shows the benefits of having a varifocal and showing how going from 2.8mm to about 8-10mm can really give you that clean capture:

walkway is only around 3 meters, most would choose 2.8mm or 4mm, but it will not give you the same results

sure there would be a better mounting point (then there would be more frontal faces and not so much covering of the bush, but its only mounted at 2meters (objective is around 1.90m) and it looked awful at the red circle (on the wall) ... so its a compromise to get a clear face shot... many people have these mini domes mounted direct to the wall, not my favour, but give you best face shot

Ok, so the next question that pops up is, why using auxiliary IR lights? Is it because of the large area?

Yes, it's because of the larger area to be covered and because the IR of the camera won't reach out far enough. Plus it keeps the bugs and spiders away from the camera and eliminates, or severely limits, interference by snow and rain.

Here has some talking about the external IR light adding. Most place can work bit well without the external IR light, but add the external IR will make pic crazy, lol.

This is a shot from a 2231T-ZS in my back yard. There is no supplemental lighting from street lights. There is a Tendalux IR on the shed which is there to fill in for another 5442 and a large, 30 watt, IR on the house about six feet to the right of the 2231. The camera can now see movement out to around 220-250 feet at the back fence line. All of these captures are from UI3 so they're, technically, not even at full resolution.

Interesting point that I never thought of.

So below are two snapshots of the same still. One from BI native and one from UI3. In UI3 I right clicked on the full window shot and selected 'Save Image to Disk'. In BI native I selected 'Snapshot'.

The UI3 jpg is 648 KB and the BI jpg is 1,111 KB. In UI3 I am using quality = 2160p 4K.

I really can't tell the difference. I even placed them side by side for comparison. Comments?

I see a difference on mine, but I'm running higher bit rates on my cameras, 5120 for 2MP and 10240 for 4MP.
