Why do you need to update the firmware?
That's a Chinese camera - an update with EN/ML stock firmware will 'brick' the camera.

If you really need to run newer firmware, the camera should be converted to English.
This method should work OK :
Unbrick and fully upgrade your R0 / DS-2CD2x32 IP cameras -
R0 / DS-2CD2x32 BrickfixV2 brick recovery and full upgrade tool - enhanced.

does the camera work do I have to start from the beginning or do I immediately load the update?

What state is the camera in just now?
What has been done to it?

And what exactly is the problem?

I had loaded an incorrect fw then I was able to find a copatible one but the varifocal function is no longer functional now the camera works but without varifocal
