Inspired by all the threads so attempting my first DIY setup and I need help understanding the Ethernet wiring to create a home office and security system setup.

My goals:
  1. Provide direct internet access to personal laptops via Ethernet cables from the router/modem
  2. Set up a security system that includes viewing feeds from POE cameras and a POE doorbell on the desktop.
Equipment I currently have:
  • 2 Dahua/EmpireTech POE Cameras
  • 1 Reolink POE Doorbell
  • 1 8-port POE Switch
  • 1 Desktop Computer with VMS software installed
  • Cat 6 Ethernet Cables
  • 1 Router/Modem Combo installed by service provider
Ideas for Setup:
  1. Run an Ethernet cable from the router/modem to the POE switch.
  2. Connect the POE cameras, POE doorbell, and the desktop running VMS to the POE switch using Ethernet cables.
  3. Connect the personal laptops directly to the POE switch using Ethernet cables to provide internet access.
It is important to be able to view the footage when we are away. Does this setup make sense for what I want to achieve, or am I missing something critical?
