Hi! Newbie setup

Good day all,

I'm from the UK and looking to set up a simple IP camera system.

It'll consist of 1 discrete camera covering my front driveway. I've had a read through the forum and think I've come up with a solution...

The Hikvision DS-2CD2532F-IS with 4mm lens

It's small and has onboard MicroSD for recording, so I wouldn't need an NVR. I'd have to purchase a 64gb MicroSD card, POE injector and a length of outdoor cat5e, right?

The area in which I'm really confused about is where to purchase the camera from. I understand that buying from China would likely result in a 'multi-language' version which can't be updated with UK firmware? I've seen one for sale on ebay, in the UK, for a very good price but don't know if I should go ahead with the purchase. I can send the link over to anyone who'll offer advice.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, you can simply use the camera with an sd card and an injector. Note there is a 4mp version that has better night vision (though the mini dome has weak IR in general)..IF you are using the camera standalone and plan to port forward it as opposed to using a vpn, then you should get a camera that will allow you to update firmware.

Many thanks for the welcome fenderman. I did question the IR capabilities of the mini dome, but hoped that the street light on our driveway entrance would help. Good point on the new 4mp cameras and port forwarding issue, something I'll look further into. Thanks again.
