HikVision DS-1280ZJ-DM21 correct way for a watertight installation

Cam is Turret Annke I9BH, aka Hikvision NCD800.
Pigtail on caliper comes in at 0.84 inch.
By way of reference, T5442T pigtail is +/- 0.50 inch.
Both being soft plastic, reading is slightly different each time you measure.

Let's say that the cam on my "test bench" is how it will install on eaves soffit.
The pigtail-to-RJ45 connection has to be housed in a box, after proper three-part sealing per @TonyR specs, and the box mounted on soffit near camera.

If I could figure out which box, I'd rather mount the box right where the ethernet cable comes out of the soffit (happens to be the right spot), make the junction inside the box, and mount the cam on the box.

I see from the specs that that cam's base is a little over 6" in diameter. Then you just.....

• Remove box lid.
• Drill hole in box lid large enough to accommodate pigtail.
• Feed pigtail through the drilled hole and mount camera to box lid.
• Caulk edges of camera base where it meets box lid.
• Drill hole in side of box for gland.
• Affix gland to box.
• Mount box horizontally.
• Run un-terminated CAT cable through gland and into box.
• Terminate CAT cable and test.
• Connect cam pigtail to CAT cable and test.
• Waterproof the pigtail connection inside the box.
• Tighten gland outer ring snug onto CAT cable.
• Mount cam-to-lid assembly to box.
• Orient and aim cam.
• Done.

Easier said than done, I'm sure.

Base is 6 1/16", you are very close for an estimate from a photo.
Base of cam is open, would have to improvise a "lid" for the pigtail hole.
Cam base will not cover hole, see photo.

A clear plan of action is a great start, and much improve chances of success.

PS: Maybe use a mounting box as a junction box, such as a PFA130.
Pigtail connection inside the box, cable coming out of the supplied gasket, to the seperately mounted camera.

Just use a box with a lid slightly larger lid than the cam's base, IMO. It's already a big-ass cam and most of the box will be under the eave, it seems.

Refering to step #1 in the install guide here, I'd think that you'd remove the mounting plate from the cam and mount it to the box lid, then run the pigtail thru the pre-drilled hole in that lid, then lastly affix the cam to its mounting plate.
