Hikvision DS-7204HGHI-SH IP camera compatability

Hello. Just registered to ask this question which I couldn't find an answer to in previous posts.

Under camera settings/protocols of this DVR the only option available is Hikvision. Presuming this means that onvif is not an option and I'm obliged to use a Hikvision IP camera? Apologies for the noob question but there's an lack of coherent online literature from Hikvision.

The 143 page DVR user manual has zero mention of ONVIF, and the the only mention of IP cameras is
"Connectable to IP cameras from Hikvision for HDVR series;"

Yes, I can confirm that the extra channels on the HGHI-SH series are only for Hikvision IP cameras, no ONVIF support.
