Hi All,

I am trying to find an answer but cant fully find what I am after.

I'm thinking of buying the Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2 NVR (or similar) and what I want to know, is, can you connect any IP cameras already on the lan network, or do you HAVE to plug the cameras into the NVR itself?

Reason being, I could plug 2 of my existing HKVision cameras direct into the NVR, but one camera is on the other side of the building (connected to my existing lan to a switch located on that side of the building) and I have 1 camera that is wireless connected to the existing Lan (which cant be wired).

Currently, I have a NAS with surveillance software on it and it works fine with the current setup. However, I will be attaching more cameras and will now prefer a dedicated NVR.

Any answers would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Yes, you can mix and match NVR PoE-connected cameras and LAN-connected cameras up to the total of 8 allowed by the model you referenced.

To add a LAN-connected camera when there is an unused PoE channel -
Set the unused channel into 'Manual' mode instead of 'Plug&Play'.
Change the IP address to match that of the LAN-connected camera.
Set the camera UserID/password etc as needed.
Click OK.

*edit* By the way - that's an old model NVR.
If you want better performance, and the ability to use h.265 and other features, check out the newer ranges.

Fantastic... Great... That's exactly what I hoped. Much appreciated.

Since posting, I have found the newer 4K version (DS-7608NI-K2/8P) and cheaper, so I will go for that one.

Thanks again,
Rob
