1st let me say ahead of time thanks for the all the information on this board, be completely lost without. I have read many people on here that have the same problem no support for non OEM units, like most who purchased I had no knowledge of these non OEM units and the issues they have. After reading everything on here I came to realize I am in over my head and could really use some help from some more informed people.

OK WARNING..

Friend has just applied the latest firmware from the European site to the same NVR bought from aliexpress (but did have non chinese firmware) and it is now bricked, tftp over ethernet does not work and we are now trying to source a 4 pin 1.25 jst connector as per suppliers support response, and YES it was the right version for his machine.

Just before xmas I did the very same thing to a genuine australian NVR, applied the right file and it installed but the logon screen was full on gibberish and the supplier had to reflash.

so be VERY careful, my advice would be to log into the nvr via the web interface and click on the firmware version update box and if it says there isn't one, then maybe give it a miss..

My experience YMMV

Is it firmware V4.1.10 build 171031
Encoding version V5.0 build 171030
This firmware update should be done on the nvr with a screen hooked up
To implement the new layout
As the on screen wizard sets up a few new things

Who you asking? if it's me then NFI he killed it before I saw anything :)

It's a 1.5mm 4-pin JST ZH connector - not 1.25mm.
And best with wires attached.
Only working of what the guy in china sent mate ;-) and TBH parts like this are impossible to get local here, will have to be ebayexpressgoobang.com

I am also puzzled as the inference is that once this cable/connection is working, putty is used to then tftp !! the firmware onto the unit...

Yes, PuTTY is used for the command interface, to specify required IP addresses, say OK to update and give progress info.
And the actual firmware transfer in to the NVR is done via a tftp server, either the Hikvision tftp updater tool or a normal tftp server.

OK, how does that work?
I have used tftp before with nvr - switch - pc pc set to 192.0.0.128 and booted the nvr, it recognised the pc and did the firmware, but in this instance, it does not see the nvr, the tftp screen has the start and that is it.

So I we connect the usb cable to the correct socket, how do you initialise putty and then the tftp? any help appreciated

Here is an example from way back :
PuTTY is set for a serial connection to the COM port that the USB to serial convertor is using (Windows Device Manager), with baud=115200, 8 bits no parity.
Power on the device, and the serial console output will show the full startup log.
Power on the device, hit Control-U to interrupt the bootloader and go through the firmware update dialogue as shown below, with the tftp server running on the PC.

Code:
U-Boot 2010.06-svn (Jun 06 2014 - 08:56:38)

Hit ctrl+u to stop autoboot: 0

This program will upgrade software.

Then I think you'd have to check your serial setup - TTL serial, and the PuTTY settings.
It will be fine.

I have been using my hikvision Nvr for awhile and really impressed with it. Everything plug and play was the main buying point after the last system We had. I recently replaced the fishyeye camera with another dome, when I did I lost 3 of my cameras, went online and updated NVR through, yet no luck.
Here is my hardware
