I'm having a new issue. Trying to set-up DDNS I am constatly recieving the 'Communication error' message when trying to create it.
I believe all my necessary ports are forwarded correctly. (IP address reflects my NVR address).

NVR DDNS Fail Screen: http://imgur.com/n146WM6 (Error appears after entering my Domain and hitting 'Save'.
It sits for about 40 seconds and comes up with 'Communication Error'

If I go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ to see if the ports are open, I can check ports 80, 8000 & 554. It says they are 'closed' but is using my IP rather than the IP of that of the NVR (I can't change that setting). Does that mean the ports aren't open as they should be?

I have also tried a different DNS server to eliminate www.hik-online.com being the fault.

Note: Using iVMS on my phone & tablet I can view cameras no problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the ports are showing as closed, your (risky) port forwarding is not set up correctly.

Connecting while the phone and tablet is using WiFi on your LAN? As opposed to a public data network?

I've tried so many ways to no avail.

IP address listed there is that of my NVR.

Is there a better way to remote view rather than opening said risky ports?

Correct, sorry I should have said it works using the homes WiFI.

Those router port forwarding settings look OK.
It may be that your NVR is the problem if it's not configured to be able to handle traffic not from the local network segment.
On the NVR 'Network configuration', check that the 'Default gateway' is set to 192.168.0.1
If you are able to establish a telnet connection to the NVR (user=root, pwd=your admin password) you can check that the NVR can connect to the internet as follows:
First by name
ping bbc.co.uk
Then by IP address
ping 212.58.246.104
If the latter does not work the NVR is unable to reach the internet, and port forwarding will not work.

On the 'risky' ports - it's been stated on here that only 8000 is required for external access with iVMS.
Port 80 would be the most risky, 554 less so.
If you really must have external access, a VPN is the most secure way - though selecting and configuring that is beyond the scope of this thread.

You sir, are a legend!

My default gateway was 192.168.1.1, the change to 192.168.0.1 was all that was required. Brilliant

Thanks again

Well, it's not 100%, but I've definitely progressed past that point. Set up an account using www.hik-online and registered my device. However, the Device Link URL just times out

More research I guess
