I have an older HIKVision NVR DS-7608NI-I2/8P with several cameras that has been working with no problems for a few years. I just picked up a DS-2CD2083G0-I camera as the old ones I have are no longer available. The NVR doesn't seem to recognize this newer camera. Are the newer cameras still compatible with the older NVRs or do I need to find an older camera that the NVR supports?

Any input would be appreciated!

Did you initialise to 'inactive' the camera before connecting it to an NVR PoE port?

What message if any did the NVR show when the camera was connected?

Unless the camera is a Chinese model, I'd expect it to work ok with that NVR.

Latest cameras require more difficult password. Maybe the ip camera activationpassword of the NVR< is not accepted by the camera. Try activating the camera manually, and add manually

Check the following three factors:

  1. Is it a Chinese version Hikvision camera or an overseas version? The Chinese version Hikvision camera is not compatible with the overseas version NVR. If you need, I can recommend an online shop where you can get overseas Hikvision cameras at good prices.
  2. Did you set the camera's password to be the same as the NVR's?
  3. What about the IP addresses of the NVR and the camera? Are they in the same IP segment?
