Hikvision NVR Password lost - NVR DS-7604NI-E1/4P

Hi,

Can I reset this NVR or is it a lost cause?

I found it second hand for $20 because it offers no access without the password. I am wondering if I could recover it to factory settings and enter a new password? (Has a power supply and HDD so that was worth $20)

1. Do, or can I, run a firmware update and that erases the current configuration, effectively resetting it back to factory defaults?
2. Do I use the back door method with another camera as mentioned in another thread?

It will be a learning curve but I can learn.

Either method would work.
The firmware is under 16MB so the Hikvision tftp updater will work OK to apply it.
