Good evening, depending where you are in the world and when you read this... hopefully someone will read this!
Firstly, as a complete noob I apologise in advance IF this is the wrong forum location for my post. I will explain my journey and issues I am experiencing in the hope someone can spin me back round and point me in the right direction! Thank you in advance!
I joined this site specifically because I found one nugget of information that helped in the middle of This forum thread so thank you for the guidance provided there. (It related to the H.264 NOT H.265 for viewing the rtsp feed)
I have a hikvision NVR with 5 POE cameras connected to it. The NVR has the IP Address of 192.168.1.102 and the cameras are designated a new IP address because of the way they are connected, however, I know I access the cameras by using rtsp userass @192.168.1.102/Streaming/channels/101 or 201 etc (and I took the colon and forward slashes out just in case!)
Believe me when I say I have gone around in circles following peoples online guidance, and at some point I probably had all the right ideas but not necessarily all at the same time or in the right order!
Ultimately, I would like to view my cameras in my Home Assistant dashboard. Firstly, I would like to be able to view them correctly in VLC. at the moment, the address I just listed, does fire up something, whereas using H.265 nothing happened. What I now get is a greyed out screen. I do not know how to fix this. I read the thread I listed before and altered the resolution, bit rate type, video quality, video frame rate, and max bit rate... still resulting in the greyed out screen.
I played with my router also, port forwarding and then quickly read about that not being secure and therefore changed my setting back (I am not that clever when it comes to these things sorry!) NOTE - Although I have attached a screenshot of my router showing the port forwarding, I have now disabled these in the router once again.
I am able to see my cameras clearly, without issue on the HIK Connect app on my mobile devices and I can also see them clearly on the IVMS4200. (note - I am an apple mac user, just in case that is a reason why VLC is not playing ball?!)
So my first question, which I think I am in the correct forum category for, is how do I resolve my issue with not being able to see my cameras correctly in VLC?
I can confirm I have checked software versions are the latest and up to date etc and I have also restarted completely with my cameras a number of times, all the way back to the SADP tool... which obviously just sorts out my NVR because of my connection arrangement.
If you have made it this far, then thank you, and I hope someone can tell me what a muppet I am and all I had to do was flick the bi directional conjunctor switch from left to right and then count to 10... or something equally as silly that I have missed!
Let me know if I need to post any further screen shots? Thank you!
