I have an older Hikvision NVR DS-7604NI-E1/4P/A with 2 cameras model Hikvision DS-2CD2112F-I with no audio. I have the correct rtsp code that runs fine on VLC video player. rtsp:/192.168.0.2:554/streaming/channels/101 (channels/201 works as well for the other camera). I also have the Monocle gateway set up for @proxy. I did have both cameras working on Alexa for a bit with @proxy will monitoring the communication with Monocle-gateway.exe running inside a cmd command. But I am no loner getting either camera to run. I have tried @tunnel (no luck) @proxy-tcp (no luck).

Anyone have their Hikvision system running on Alexa that is willing to help out this \old fart that has been trying for 3 days now with limited success?

Coincidentally, I've had to mess with Monocle lately though not for my Hikvision cams. The following works for me but looks like you've already tried the same.

Camera Feed/Stream URL (RTSP):

Username
Password
NOTE: Special characters such as '# @ $ % & : ;' in the username or password may cause authentication issues in some cases. Please try using a basic username and password first and then after you have a successful camera feed working, then try using more complex credentials with special characters.

thanks for the reply. I had originally tried @tunnel but nothing worked until I used @proxy. But now nothing again. I only had them running very temporary like for about 5 minutes than they failed. My cameras are limited to 720P so no issue with over resolution and I believe Alexa is good to 4K now.

I haven't tried "BASIC" Authentication in a while as I am currently using "DIGEST". I switch it back to "BASIC" and see if that works.

Oops... left out the stream string:

rtsp:/192.168.2.25/Streaming/Channels/101

Likely that you have some other problem somewhere if you had the cams working with your setup at some point. Don't feel too bad. It's kind of a mess between what cam wants, Monocle running locally, their servers, and all of Alexa's quirks. 3 days of hair pulling sounds about right.

There's a log file where Monocle is installed that might be helpful to look at. Over the last couple of days too I've had odd things happen randomly. Mine didn't work yesterday. Stopped and restarted the service and it worked fine. Today wasn't working again. Log showed some errors. That seemed to clear on its own after a little while.

Same thing with Basic. It is extremely frustrating when I know I had it and then lost it without changing anything. Now I am not even sure if I am back where it was when I did have it working. lol

Yeah, know how you feel. lol

Based on my fighting with it, I'd kind of clear the decks and try things over again.

Kill service in task manager and restart that.
Delete the cam in Monocle's Dashboard.
Delete the device in the Alexa app.

Then go back and restart service. Make a new Monocle entry with a new name so you can tell it apart. Make sure no potential conflicts with other similar device names. Wait a few minutes. Seems to be a delay at times. Then have Alexa do a device discovery again. It should find the new device. Give it a try then.

If it doesn't work, take a look at the logs and see if you can see some error. It's kind of cryptic but did help me work through things. Maybe post the log here. I'm not an expert on the thing but I have had to sort through it a bit to get mine working.

I just noticed this in my log. Note where I bolded it. That is telling me it needs to stream the sub-stream instead of the main stream. Although I di have it working on the main stream. I will change the camera protocol to UDP and see what happens.

now this is really weird. I changed the protocol to UDP and it worked for the Driveway camera. I then asked Alexa to "show front door" and no go. I then tried to go back to the Driveway and now not working. (more hair being pulled) LOL

I don't see any UDP call for mine but I'm using @tunnel.

For comparison, here's how it looks on a good working connection.

Here is what I am getting after it starts buffering. only took 20 seconds to start buffering this time. Then the socket closes.

At least you know the password, authentication, and string are OK and you have a device that Alexa can find if you can get it to display at all.

Can you try @tunnel and setting the cam back from UDP?

Also, there's a Timeout parameter in the Monocle Dashboard. I've never used it and looking quickly I'm not sure what timeout it applies to. Connection? Stream?

tried @tunnel and nothing. Switched back to @proxy and works until it starts buffering and then the socket closes and I lose connection.

I do not know what the Timeout parameter is on the Monocle Dashboard and I don't see anything for it in the help files yet.

I didn't find anything either.

Any other cams you can try there? These are running from the NVR? Can you detach and run independently or is that your only POE source?

Unfortunately no resolution posted but it seems that you're not alone:

yup looks like he tried the timer and no luck. I am sure it is just some simple little tweak that I need but I am not finding it. I have a Firestick 4k on order so I may just wait until I try to set that up and see if I get the same issues or it works fine.

No I do not have another camera and I have not tried the POE camera direct to the network switch. Might be worth a try though.

Many thanks for your help.

I just tried setting up two other Hikvision cams that I have and they both worked fine. @proxy or @tunnel both worked. A DS-2CD2335FWD-I 3MP I had to set down to 1080 to get to work on my Show 5; otherwise, it would close the connection. Also tested at 720 just to check and it worked fine.

If you're getting as far as you are, then seems all of the pieces are in place and everything is working at a basic level at least. Yeah, if you have a POE switch or can power it otherwise maybe try getting it away from the NVR and see if that makes any difference.
