Hi All.

I am looking for Home automation websites that really teach the hobbyist and DIY guy how to automate right up to MQTT and the IOT of things.
A site that combines projects, DIY and learnings that can help me put together a central home automation system myself.

So far I have come across this site http://www.iiot.co.za

Does anyone know of some other websites that do this kind of stuff?

Thanks.

that looks like a vendor just selling off the shelf crap..

check out the forums on https://www.domoticz.com/ as thats where I spend alot of my time.
thanks for the reply nayr, I am not quite sure OpenHAB and Mosquitto not to mention esp8266 chipsets are as much off the shelf as domoticz is but be that as it may your website looks very interesting but like a LOT of difficult mileage.
The emphasis is easy to learn, modular, supported and by enlarge common opensource., you see I am scared of sites like domoticz because it's all free up to some point where is becomes non-free, don't get me wrong , there is nothing wrong with creative incubators, but if something is paid for it tends to be more polished with less surprises and FAR less mileage.

Does anyone know of any other sites?

Thanks.

dunno what your talking about you can be up and running pretty quick as compared ot that stuff, i mean its all the same in the end.. either your going to DIY it or your going ot pay for someone to do it for you... it supports all sorts of hardware, pick your poison and run with it.. you can configure master/slaves so you can put GPIO nodes distributed with ethernet, it has a MQTT Interface, there are premade Raspberry Pi images that will get you going out of the gate.. there is so many devices that are already supported it makes your spin, kodi, plex, hue, zwave, rfcom.

Gotta get a big community to help you get all your stuff talking together, no one thing will do it all without a bit of effort and elbow grease.

its dutch, but they are HUGE into homeuatomation... look at where OpenHAB came in vs Domoticz

You can plug it all together but without a logic engine running it all its a bunch of stupid stuff, Domoticz is a great logic engine.. there are graphical scripting, simple lua scripts, advanced api's.. pick your poison and run with it.. takes clever thinking and logical reasoning but you can pull of just about everything..
