How to configure an Annke C500 camera to work with my LaView 9808 NVR

Hi All,
I have a LaView 9808 NVR and one of the LaView cameras died. I bought an Annke C500 camera to replace it but have had no luck in getting the NVR to recognise it. The error given is "unknown error", very helpful.
Has anyone had any success in adding an Annke camera to Laview NVR, if so any hints on how to configure the camera?
So far I have enabled ONVIF on the camera and set the IP address to match the LaView subnet. I had tried to use plug and play but had no success with that either.

Ok, I have been trying various different things.
Firstly I should state that the camera is connected directly to one of the NVR POE ports. I also noticed that the NVR only supports H.264 so I changed the camera to match that.
Tried setting the IP address of the camera to match the NVR internal subnet 192.168.254.xx.
Tried setting ONVIF and HIKVISION protocols
management port set to 8000

Now getting "Network Unreachable" error, progress????

NVR firmware is V2.3.4 build 140423, tried updating to a newer version 3.3.1 but I get a firmware mismatch error.
