I just received my IPC-HFW2831T-ZAS-S2. My home network is 10.0.1., and as I understand this camera defaults to 192.168.1.108, so: I got a laptop, configured it to be 192.168.1.1, attached the camera to it via ethernet cable, fired up a browser, and went to 192.168.1.108. I get a black page - it's there (and ping picks it up, so I know the IP stuff is working) but I can't see anything resembling a login page (or anything at all). What am I doing wrong? What's the best way to get into this camera for the first time (to admin it via a browser interface, change the IP to DHCP on 10.0.1., etc.)?

What I do is simply add another address, 192.168.1.x to the PC/laptop network interface, plug the camera into my switch, bring up a browser and enter the camera IP of 192.168.1.108. I use either Brave, Opera, or Chrome with the IE plug-in for a browser. If that's, basically, what you're already doing and you can't get to the camera web GUI I'd try a reset of the camera by powering it up and pressing the reset button inside the camera for about 15 seconds and try again.

I'm sing Opera and Firefox, and seeing a black page (although ping tells me it can see the device). Maybe I'm missing this IE plug-in - what's that?

You will probably have the best luck simply using internet explorer. I have never had success using any of the IE plug-ins for other browsers. YMMV...

The IE plug-in is specific to Chrome. It makes Chrome behave/translate things that were specific in the IE era of browsers. I don't think there's one available for Opera or Firefox. Another one to try is Pale Moon browser in the 32 bit version, but I think the 2831 should work with Opera, Firefox, Brave or Chrome.
