How to start intrusion detection in Playback?

Hi,

I recently got a DS-76082N-E2 with firmware V3.4.80 setup. I'm trying to set manual intrusion detection which I found called Smart Search, but can't seem to activate it. I can select the option at the bottom and select my rectangular area, but can't seem to figure out how to activate it.

Can this option be used on the web client?

It doesn't work in the web GUI, nor does line crossing detection, even in the 3.4.95 firmware, unfortunately.
It's not clear why it doesn't work, and I don't think we've seen any posts (eg OK on specific types of cameras) where it does.
Motion detection only.
 
Does it work from the nvr itself? I haven't had a chance to hook up a monitor/mouse to it because it's in a different room and was setup for me by the security company.

How does motion detection work on the web GUI?
