Hi!
I live in a residential building where every apartment has an indoor intercom unit from Hikvision DS-KH6320-WTE1. We also have a few Dahua IP cameras connected to the intercom switch. I attached the exact network structure and some notes below. Everyone has the indoor unit connected to their Wi-Fi and can view the cameras using the Hik-Connect app.
All the units have firmware version 2.1.24 build 210714. Because some of them keep disconnecting from the main door unit, we decided to update the firmware to the latest one available.
After the firmware update, the IP cameras can only be viewed while at home and only in HD. If we try to check a camera using cellular, we get one of these errors: “streaming timed out” or “decoding timed out.” The main door camera works all the time.
All the other units with old firmware work perfectly fine.
If we use a VPN to have the same public IP as the indoor unit (not to be in the same network), IP cameras work from anywhere. I said not to be in the same network because many of us have connected the indoor unit to guest/IoT Wi-Fi which does not communicate with the main network.
Could Hikvision have decided that other camera brands’ video feeds can’t be streamed using Hik-Connect anymore?
If that’s the case, I guess with these new firmwares the indoor unit receives a request from the cloud for a live view of an IP camera and only plays it if the client device has the same public IP.
That doesn’t explain why these IP cameras don’t work while using guest Wi-Fi on both devices.
Please check the attached file for more information. Thank you!
