I you have a choice, which firmware for a 2332?

I see several different firmware versions listed here and there. What seems to be the best one for a Western region 2332? Thanks!

I've only used 5.1.5 and 5.2.0. The latter added a ton more functionality, specifically a bunch of test buttons. Also it was able to FTP properly (former version couldn't). I've had no desire to add a subsequent version.

@LittleBrother... does 5.2.0 give you decent motion detection where I can differentiate between people and not just pixel change? I'm planning on using Sighthound which does this but until I get it I might like to use the built-in features first. Thanks!

I don't think it has any intelligent recognition built into the camera itself; just pixels and also I think there is some line detection, though I don't use it and I've heard it may have actually been better (line detection) in previous firmware revisions. Whoever manages hikvision's firmware is a mystical figure who makes strange decisions.

I'm on 5.3.0 on all my Hikvision cameras. I like the ability to tweak settings based on day or night. There were day/night settings before, but I've recently noticed more options than previously. Can't for certain say that it all came with 5.3.0 though.

Thanks for the info! How is it with line detection or more meaningful motion detection?

If your camera has 5.3.0 on it and came with 5.3.0 then you have no choice really, it's 5.3.0 or my downgrade to 5.2.5.
If your camera originally came with a firmware of 5.2.3 or less than you can try 5.1.6 which still has the best functionality of all the releases.

+1 Good advice.

Personally would just not touch it. Not worth the hassle if something goes wrong.

Great discussion everyone. A potential source for my two cameras can ship the 2332 with any of the following firmware versions... 5.1.6, 5.2.0, 5.2.3 or 5.2.5. With those options, what would you think would be the best choice? Thanks all!

5.1.6 if you have an original fw below 5.2.3

I agree... 5.1.6 was the best one!

And as for an "official source" a lot of places are unofficial sources selling international cameras too (as most of us aren't installers!) including use ip. The main thing is that it is an International version camera if you want to update via the website (although this still goes wrong now and then).

If you're not sure, then it's best to post the serial number from SADP and someone here will let you know.
