i7-6700 vs i5-8500 BI/DS comparison (CPU only)

Otherwise systems similar ? ( ssd about the same speed, sata controller about the same ? .. )
Yup, both Dell Optiplex with PCIE NVMe SSD...the i7-6700 has 12GB of DRAM but the i5-8500 has 16GB but neither is using much more than 12GB. I'll have to check another test case to see if it holds or it was an anomaly.

Excellent, looking forward to more data on this .. interesting to see such a big improvement

So the 6 core is processing the info faster than the 4 core 8 thread Processor right?
Interested only because I too, am running the i5-8500 on a HP .
but have not implemented Deepstack (yet)

I concur, the i5-8500 really can do quite a respectable job on CPU only DeepStack installations. I generally don't see times quite that low (perhaps occasionally in optimal daylight conditions), but I run it with Medium image size being sent to DS (not sure if this is with the same, or if this represents the time when running with Small images being sent over to DS).
