Just want to vent for a moment. I've just updated my BIv5 for yearly support/updates. I've had 1 whole year to work with this and still have issues adding a camera. Built a computer with two nics. DHCP on the nic to my router. POE switch on the other nic but usually end up with color bars after trying to add a camera. I'm not especially asking for help but this shouldn't be so hard. I haven't tried to add a dahua camera yet.
Today I tried to add two Hornbill cams that are attached to the hornbill NVR. NVR has an ip of 192.168.1.86 The cameras are on a 172.16 x.x ip ...damn gotta go ill be back...

Had something burning on the stove...so I go to add a camera, Cam 1 default name is unknown, I know the ip and the login credintials (not sure of the brand due to Hornbill being off-brand) --and here is wher i get screwd up. I can see my NVR with two cameras, it will take 8 but i want to eliminate the nvr one day and use BI exclusivly. So I go thru the ip adress search. See my NVr and i think the two cameras., but can't seem to get the ...damn...i'll get more info.

so i see 192.168.1.86 - my nvr, and the last of the 172.16....x for one of my two cams.

I'll try to be more coherent next post.

The only way to bring the cameras connected to the NVR into BI is thru the NVR. The NVR acts as a firewall of sorts so you won't be able to access that 172 subnet.

So you put in the IP address of the NVR and then select camera 1, then add a new camera with IP address of the NVR but this time camera 2, repeat.

You don't use the IP's of the cams in BI , use the NVR's LAN IP and then a channel number for each cam.
Four cams, then 4 BI cams all with the same IP of 192.168.1.86 then channel 1,2, 3 & 4 from the drop-down.

Thanks for the quick response guys. It's so easy when someone shows you the proper configuration. I can't believe I've had BI for over a year and still find it a bit intimidating. I'm sure I'll have another silly question when i add more cameras and migrate everything to BI. :thumb:

PS - i have my BI computer in another part of the house and it's just more confortable using this old computer to interact with the wold wide web. I can drink, smoke and cuss down hear in my man cave without getting into trouble.
