Image goes black and fades up again?

I have such a strange issue with my DS-2CD2142FWD-IWS (4MP) camera running v5.4.1 (tried v5.4.2 too).

The image goes black and then fades back again, this happens in like 2sec and it's doing it over and over again, but sometimes it's running ok for a while. I have no clue what might be causing it and the logs don't say much.

I have motion detection enabled and everytime this happens it triggers motion and sends an alarm.

Anyone have any ideas?
 
Is this occurring during night time only?

It sounds like it's flipping back and forth between day mode and night vision mode. This can occur if there's just enough lighting at night to confuse it and prevent it from stay in one mode.

This will also trigger a motion alarm because motion in your camera is determined by a change in the image, including light sources and switching from day to night. In other words, motion detection for your camera is not the same as heat source motion detected by PIR technology.
 
i have the same camera but i think from firmware 5.4.1 it does this sometimes to my camera too
i dont know if its ok to downgrade to older firmware
 
I tried to set it to always night but it still did it :/
