Years ago all the security cameras recorded constantly and you could record to a hard drive or your computer or even a flash drive or SD card in your computer!

I used to have a D-Link DCS-932L (it died and is no longer supported) that did all of the above plus allowed live viewing on your phone or computer. It also had a 51 degree viewing angle which was perfect to record my yard from inside house on the window sill. Fisheye lenses are no good at a distance through a window.

All of the new devices like Ring or even D-Link sell require a trigger like motion or sound to record for a short interval leaving hours and hours of the day with no recorded video. Unacceptable imo.

Does anybody know of a current indoor recording device with no more than 60 degree lens (many now have fish eye lens which is useless at distances more than 20 feet away)?

I like to aim my indoor wifi cam through the window to watch my yard. I'm not up for installing an outdoor security system.

I am hoping someone can make a suggestion? Thanks so much!

This may serve your purpose.

Thanks so much for taking the time to make a great suggestion but unfortunately it is a wide angle lens (90 degree viewing angle). I really need no more than 60 degree viewing angle. 50 degree viewing angle would be perfect.

The also provide no recording software for computer and max size sd card is 64gb which won't hold much at 1080p

Definitely in the right track though It will record constantly if set up that way.

2.8mm lens is obviously too big then. 3.6, 4 or higher is best then.

Um...... there is a button to buy Blue Iris on the home screen of IPCT.
Or Dahua (manufacture of Amcrest cameras) has their own PC silent software named 'Smart PSS' (Nick name of 'Smart Piece of sheet').

Definitely in the right track though It will record constantly if set up that way.
Google is a few clicks away; you've made it to this site and Google can take you on a safari to find other software packages if you desire.
Alternatively you can look around here in VMS categories.

I didn't even know what Blue Iris was. I hoped D-View Cam would work for other ip type cameras.
Please keep in mind I have absolutely no idea what I am doing.

I tried searching constant recording ip cameras and everything that came up required a motion or sound trigger. Merely discovering that there ARE still cameras that will record for hours and hours on a schedule without any trigger was a HUGE find and I think you for it.

It is hard to search when you don't know the proper jargon to word the search criteria. I spent a week trying to find something just like the DCS-932L that is new and still supported by the manufacturer. This website is my last hope.

I appreciate your generous help. Perhaps someone else will kick in some advice as well. I don't expect you to do all the work. As I said merely finding a camera that records without trigger was huge to me. Unfortunately my criteria are very narrow because I have purchased other products that didn't work for me so I learned the hard way.

It is entirely possible that no new camera exists that will do what I need.

Again I am very grateful to have benefitted from your experience.

Read the Cliff Notes and check out the WIKI to get a better handle on terminology and what is available.

Thanks but I will live in hope that someone else here has a camera that suits my needs or is so familiar with them he can make another suggestion. As I said in an earlier post I have been looking for months. Neither manufacturers nor spec sheets ever list the ability to record constantly. They all brag about triggers and cloud access and those are not features I care about. I have learned that virtually all of them are motion triggered now and virtually none of them allow constant recording without blanks in time.

I think I have learned that an ip cam is preferable for my needs than a cmos cam but how they differ exactly is a mystery I needn't solve.

When I bought the 932L years ago I knew absolutely nothing yet it was perfect for my needs.

I gave up and bought a new in box 932L from ebay
Now it won't allow me to connect it to Dlink although I can view it through D View Cam only when I am at home.
