I have 2 of these cameras since May of last year as i recall. One of them always worked. The other one seems to stop working now and again. But - without me doing anything it suddenly will work. it is up higher on the house, but since it is nice outside I figured I would go have a look because it stopped working 6 days ago.

I ran a tester on the wire to make sure the ethernet cable is sound. I don't see why that would change, but worth a test:

Went to the server cabinet, put the receiver on the other side, and all pairs come back normally. This is to an Aruba JL686A switch which has plenty of power. The only strange thing I see is this with the ethernet cord:

And then with the connector:

The ethernet cable should be fine as it tested out properly. I brushed them both out with a toothbrush, but still doesn't work. Any thoughts on what could be going on here? This is a pretty expensive camera (for me) and I cannot afford to replace with the same camera.

The tester only tests continuity and not the ability to provide POE for these types of devices.

That looks pretty corroded to me and almost like it shorted.

Was the connection not in a box or otherwise protected?

Did you use dielectric grease?

If not try deoxit as that has brought many cams back to life.

But it looks to me like a water damaged connection. And it may have killed the camera.

You never enclosed/weather proofed the RJ45 male and female connectors, to avoid the water ingress that has caused the issues.
No suprise the camera is faulty now.
Was this professional installed or a bodge job by someone that hasn't got a clue to do things correctly.

+1 on giving Deoxit a try

Thanks, will give the Deoxit a try. No, it was not protected properly - Silicon sealant was used similar to marine applications from what my buddy said.

i went out and FAFO'ed my data cable,,,reterminated all connections. ( i have a splice where once up a time I ran a 2for1 cable setup that was janky) was able to stuff the splice box up under the siding. yay.
AND it's on a 802.3AT rated switch this time.

reterminate the cable with a fresh connector.

I see several other wires on that pigtail other than the minimum POE RJ-45 and they are all subject to corrosion and causing failure or issues if not properly protected. It may not be pretty on that vinyl siding but the PFA-130E box for that camera and its pigtail could keep those properly protected connections from causing a future problem.

I'd definitely replace the male connector; the female may need it ultimately as well. :idk:

Just as a followup... took me some time as I was a bit busy with other things (pesky work stuff), but I pulled the RJ45 and wired a new one on (male instead of female), plugged into my network, and the camera is working! Yes, now I will have to install myself with some protection. Thank you for helping with this.

Also - I didn't wire it like above at all. I only pulled the ethernet wiring itself and then just re-mapped all wires in T568B style like this:
