Im thinking about getting the IPC-HDBW4231F-AS (Starlight Mini Wedge - IPC-HDBW4231F-AS | Dahua Technology ) for the inside of my 10'x12' shed. I'm planning on putting it right in the middle of the 10' side right at the top (probably 7' high) and will hopefully be able to get as much of the interior as possible (im talking about the corner of the floor directly below the camera all the way to the 6ft high of the opposite 10' side and all the walls... So obviously a 2.8mm cam and possibly rotated 90 degrees in corridor mode). This will be just for checking in on the contents of the shed for piece of mind.

I probably should get a cheaper lesser quality camera since I have zero interest in ID'ing people with this camera, but I can't help getting these Starlight cams :)

Hoping to place the order in the next 2 weeks, waiting on a quote for this camera and another camera from @EMPIRETECANDY right now.

Does anybody have this in a similarly sized room that they could share pictures with me?

Thanks

Hmmm. I've seen some pictures from folks using this camera in corridor mode on their front porch, might be worth a search for those while waiting for any replies here. I'm guessing 2.8mm might get a lot of floor and ceiling in the shot, but that's just a guess.

I did see some pictures of that, but without distances noted its a little tough to tell exactly how it'll work in such enclosed quarters.

Also, apparently this 4231F and the 4231EM (the fixed lense little brother to the 5231 Starlight) are the same price so I actually don't see any reason not to get the turret as opposed to this indoor dome.

I'm going to steal a 5231 Starlight from one of my doors and play around with it to see what the view will be like and will likely just order 2 of the 4231EM turrets.

I'll be sure to upload some pictures later this week.

I believe the wedge cam has a built in Mic, which could be reason why it may be used over the turrets, especially for a front door. I am getting ready to order one of these for my front door, because it has a mic. I am also going to order the 4MP version of it.

Starlight turret has a mic too. My guess is that some folks are having problems getting the significant-other-approval-factor with the bigger turret at the front door.

Right, both have mics. I can't see any reason to get the dome vs the turret except for form factor since they are the same price.

OK, had no idea that the turret had a built in mic. I hadn't looked at the specs yet. Just like everyone else on this forum, I recommend the turret over a dome when being used outside. The domes are ideal for mounting low where someone could move the camera for some reason.

I thought the dome would be cheaper and since it is going to be in my shed I'd save a few bucks and go with it. But they're the same price. Who knew.

Anyway my new poe switch is on my porch right now so hopefully I'll be able to post up some pictures tonight and then order 2 of the turrets.

I did some testing last night and just made a new thread because the ideas I had don't fit this thread anymore.

Chicken Coop Camera Suggestions

I'll add a couple of the pictures (that are already in the new thread) here just for the sake of closing this out. From the outside camera position to the close corner of the shed (the shovel) is 17'. Down the right side of the pen is 22' and down the left side is 24'. The coop is a 10'x12' shed.

I always thought this was not really a concern, either you'd get a good view of the person before they moved it or if they had a mask on they'd only move it and then take mask off.

Coming from someone who owns/runs/works at a camera monitoring company (whatever role you play there... I always enjoy the videos you post) this may change my opinion. How often do you experience this?

Thank you for the compliment. We see cameras being moved quite a bit. When we do an install, we like to put cameras down low, around 8-10 ft, this way we get a long view. We learned early that bullets will be moved or pushed up with a stick. Domes usually don't last very long in the sun. The globes become sunburned. We started using turrets and the ball domes, or eyeball cams. Primarily because you can tighten them up pretty good and they are easy to replace if they get damaged. Also, its easier to get spray paint off of a glass lens rather than a lexan lens that are on domes.

That was part of my consideration. It also turns out the mic in the dome is way better. The sound I get out of all my turrets is so muffled and distorted I just turned off the mic on all of them. With the dome I can hear birds tweeting clearly.
The turrets I can not make much of anything out.

Turn off the noise filter in cam settings.

Holy cow, this made a night and day difference on my 5231 turrets!!! Sounds 10000x better. Wonder if there's any disadvantages?
