I paid $180 for my gun camera, then $60 on 5-60mm lens (12x), then another $40 for my composite birdhouse enclosure to put it in.. oah and then IR but your likely still going to need external IR if your trying to hit a plate at distance.. about same price (under $300), but I am 4MP.. so a little benifit for a lot of work.
I think it would be a good camera for LPR, real WDR helps me out alot and this has it.. the motorized focus/zoom will be worth the docking in megapixels, mine is a pain to manually zoom and focus.. and plates are just as readable at 1080p for me.. alprd gets a bit better accuracy after the switch up from 2MP to 4MP but its not dramatic.. just a few more percentage points on confidence, at least on my setup with ample zoom capabilities.
