I am looking for a PC for NVR with space for 1x 2.5" and 1x 3.5". The 9020 normally comes with 1x 3.5". I could get an optical caddy or rig in a 2x5" in place of the CDRW drive.

This item doesn't come with an HDD, which suits me.

It also doesn't come with Ram. I see Dell's ram is double regular prices. Besides height, should I be able to use about any ram out there?

Also, from my understanding, I can use a W7 dvd to install, then activate with the COA sticker. Is that correct?

Any chance this would have a warranty and it would transfer to me?

Thanks!
John

@frankred How many cams will you be recording and at what resolution. What VMS software package will you be using?

Dont spend too much on that machine...consider that they are under 400 when on sale at the dell outlet..so watch the auction..
You dont even need a caddy, for the 2.5...there is room in the case (very little) if you are willing to secure with double sided tape or velcro..I install all ssd's with double sided velcro...makes life easy...
It may have a warranty..
You should also be able to use the COA with a windows dvd...if it still has a warranty dell will ship you the media on a usb overnight, because its business machines..see if you can contact the seller before auction is over and ask for the serial number..then check at dells website...

Thanks for that info Fenderman. It does have warranty until 2017. I asked the seller if the ram was removed because it was bad and if he could include it anyway.

Original listing was wrong. The seller had added that it had 2gb.
Anyway, it went to $240 in the final seconds. That seemed like too much for that item to me...

What vms will you be running on it? how many cameras? resolution?

Sorry, I currently should have answered that earlier. I have a Panda 902 (I forget the Hik model equivalent) and a 2332 in the mail. Once I get some time with the 2332, I will figure out which 1-2 cameras to add.
I am planning to start with IVMS 4200 and see how that suits me.
I will be setting the resolution as high as reasonable once I have all the pieces together.

Keep an eye out for an SFF hp elite desk as well..something like this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HP-Elit...422?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item235005332e
You can often snag them in the 350 range....the Ultra slim desktops go for less, but only have room for a single 2.5...
NOTE:the auction above has not warranty...but you will find others that do...
If you dont mind a tower then look at this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-EliteDes..._DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d34294714#shpCntId
check the serial number on hp's warranty lookup site to see warranty status..you can generally determine how long the machine was used for based on the remaining warranty...

Cool... To clarify they are not off lease.. They are generally returns or used for a few months... The lease units are generally a few years old
