Hi All,
What an amazing site with a wealth of information! I have found the Wiki/Cliff notes to be extremely helpful in designing my home surveillance system. I was waffling between Hikvision and Dahua cams, but information from this forum has helped steered me towards Dahua, biggest driving factor being firmware stability.

A little bit about my background. I am an IT professional and am familiar with working with networking, virtualization, storage, servers, and even some surveillance software-- Milestone and Synology.

As of now, I plan on installing a ~10 camera system using, Dahua 2MP VF STARVIS cams on the exterior, an Extreme networks Layer 3 switch, and a Synology NAS for storage.

I am still undecided as far as an NVR is concerned. I am considering Synology, Blue Iris, and Milestone. More research and discussion to come.

The information compiled here has been invaluable. I look forward to learning more and hopefully being able to contribute the cause.

Thanks,
