I'm expecting a lot of minutia that adds up to not much.

I do think sometimes we overlook the obvious with these things and thats why the Billie Sol Estes story makes so much sense.
Texas politics has always been dirty and Johnson was indeed a scumbag.
Living there for 25 years and interacting due to business with many "real" Texan's (including some with lots of land and money going back generations) in south and Central TX, this was always the most believed theory
