When I installed my IPC-HDW2231R-ZS cameras on my soffits a couple years ago I used the Dahua junction boxes. They hang down quite a bit.
My dad now wants to put a few up on his aluminum soffits at his place. He is not a fan of the look of the cameras with the boxes and I don’t remember if they are “required” for install.
Do you need to use the dahua junction boxes, or can the cameras be mounted directly to the soffits?
Thanks.

If you make a 3/4” inch hole for the cable tails then yes. Without the junction box there is nowhere for the cable tails to go so you’d have to make a larger hole and then push the tails back into the area behind the sofffit.

I always try to minimize the diameter of the holes; its easier to stuff the wiring into a box. Instead of making a 3/4" hole you can then make a 3/8" hole

Not necessary. I have two of my 2231s mounted directly to the aluminum soffits
