Purchased a LaView LV-KNT982D22D4 with 2 4MP dome cameras, and 2 2MP dome cameras and 8ch NVR without hard drive. I was hoping for bullets as they mount easier and have better zoom. System is missing a hard drive, so I plan on getting a 1TB WD purple - would 1TB be sufficient?

Anyone have experience with this system or similar? Who is the OEM for the cameras?

If you're on a tight budget, 2TB should be all you really need. Otherwise, shop around for a really good price on the 4TB drive.

I think a 2TB would be a waste. With two 4MP and two 2MP cameras recording at only 7FPS at high quality the 2 TB drive will only save about 4 or 5 days of video. I'm cheap, and I'd still rather start with a 4TB. Start with one 4TB drive, and add another later when there's a good deal. Right now it's $80-90 for a 2TB, and $145-150 for a 4TB. If you want cheaper, the Seagate 4TB surveillance drive is normally ~$20 cheaper.

Note: the prices seem to be going up, last week the 4TB WD was under $120 at a couple places. Yesterday Newegg had it for $139, and today they have it for $147.

How are you guys mounting dome cameras? Do you mount it directly to the underside of your roof overhang, or do you use a system with a box and conduit off the side of the home?
