Light ideas

Precisely why I put both of my 5231 varifocals UNDERNEATH my garage carriage lights. Plus has the benefit of being on same horizontal plane to catch direct facial ID's.
(yea...it's a blurry picture but you can get the gist of it).

Wohaa a Pontiac Grand am! haven't seen those in a long time. nice!
still would have it today but could not afford 4 new tires for it. so donated to Salvation Army. To be fair, the interior was starting to get ghetto. Engine ran 100% perfect but it's 1996 build time was coming to an end.

So I moved the camera, but im getting a lot of noise here. When I zoom in digital zoom, its just pixelated. I even try manual focus and it just isn't it.

heres and image of someone slowly walking down my street.

any ideas? im not the best at tuning the settings in for a camera.

You need to adjust exposure, gain, compensation and probably eliminate WDR or BLC to get rid of that blur and pixelation.

The WDR that high will produce all kinds of artifacts. That's why I said to eliminate it. If you can't get away without it keep it extremely low, as i below 20. It turns into a balancing act between exposure, gain and compensation primarily. I'm always fooling with those settings on a few cameras that arein areas with problematic lighting so you're certainly no alone, and I suspect it's a big club :)

That little sparkle/bright spot is probably an artifact in the lens from a reflection/refraction of one of the lights, your porch light or the neighbors garage light. I have a camera that has a shaft of light like that from a street light that is just out of view. You could shut off your porch light to test if it's that and wait for your neighbor to shut off that garage light to ee if it's that one.

Here's how it is without my lights on. It's a refurbed 5442 ZEB and I think I saw a little scratch.

The neighbors light kinda is annoying.

This is the best I was able to get it, but it doesn't stay that way for some reason.

Another trick is to use "full time" under "Profile Management", then use the Dahua Sunrise/Sunset utility to switch profiles. That lets you compensate for the variation of sunrise /sunset through the year and handle the standard time to daylight saving time switch as well.

Last pic looks good if you can keep it that way. Maybe a touch more contrast. That might take the lights down a little too.

Check to see what happens when your face is lit with the IR. Smart IR isn't all that smart and they can be a lot brighter than you'd expect when the image has a lighter tone like that.

And kill the "IPC" overlay. ; )

Lookin' better...

And unless you want to see the sky for weather purposes, I'd come down a bit, just barely above the roof peak of the house across the street so you'll catch more of the front of your car and the d/w closer to your garage.

I'm still getting some artifacts even with all lights off because it's morning.

I'm gonna wipe the lens here in a second and bring it down to get more of car.

I kinda like the IPC overlay. Got that OG look.

One thing I learned from doing professional camera installations in places like Home Depot and such... remove wasted space out of the image. Do you need to see above those houses in the background? Lower your camera. I placed a 6' ladder infront of my house to where a human would walk. That is near the upper border of my camera image. Is your camera catching too much of a side wall? Re-angle it as this will also help with IR backwash. The point being...why include static non-critical imagery on your camera as it is wasted space.
Now, what I may not understand or have a grasp of... Blue Iris or camera AI itself, does things get less sensitive as you move away from the center of the lens? I use on board camera AI for IVS tripwires and such. I think at night time, it does have more issues of false alerts the further from center point the alert happens. I have to test more on this someday.

I moved the camera down more to avoid the unwanted images like the sky. I still have the pixelated mess in the middle there by the mailbox. Im gonna update the firmware tonight.

Same model camera, but same area. Looks very clean. Maybe need to focus a little better on this one.

What are your cam settings for that one?

Should be much more clear (obviously). That kind of looks like a substream or digitally zoomed.

What's the bit rate for the main stream on that one?
