Is there any sort of guide available on what bitrates will provide a minimum quality image without blockyness for various resolutions and FPS?

I am still researching ACTi even though the forum admin hates them.

I see this post about them:

"The maximum encoding bit rate is just 6 Mbps. It should be 12+"

I've been looking at other ACTIi models, and oddly I see 6mbps max per stream in the specs, even for the more expensive $600 models.

run away from Acti heh..

Typically, in my experience the sweet spot lies:
1MP: ~5Mbps
2MP: ~6Mbps
3MP: ~7Mbps
4MP: ~8Mbps

for decent quality h264 bitrate, rounding up for safe quality, any thing much lower will be very noticeable.. anything much higher will be hard to notice.

so for a 10MP camera it should be: ~15Mbps to scale the quality up proportionally with the extra pixels.

and UHD 4k 12MP should be ~17Mbps on h264, but most are doing h265 which changes the formula a bit.. havent had much experience but from what Ive seen it'll knock about 5Mbps off a 4k stream.. maybe more.
