Well, we're essentially talking about microwaves with these things. At 1.4 miles I don't think a Loco would work especially with trees in the way. The Air Max 2nd gen bridge might work. 1.4 miles is pretty short range for that, but aiming is critical. If you did put a mast on top of the barn and a grain bin it would need to be stable, even in the wind. Perhaps a 15' roof mount tower would do the trick. Unfortunately, the only way to know for certain is to try it. How bad, thick, are the trees? If you could get a photo it might help.
