Something like that defeats the purpose of a small pc...might as well use a mini-tower and put the drives inside..

Can you provide a picture of what mean?

What I meant to say was that the box you linked to is huge...You would be better off simply using a tower/mini tower pc that can hold two extra 3.5 drives rather then use that box and a small pc..

I am not familiar with the insides of a mini tower pc, do they have pwer supplies, motherboards, processor inside? will they hold the ssd and the 2 other drives?

Yes, everything is inside, there is room for an ssd and two other drives....I guess it doesnt help if you already have the mini pc, but 100 seems like a lot for the enclosure...
Another idea, if you are already spending the money, is to get a synology two bay nas for 200...this way you can hide it somewhere else in the house....you can record to the nas using and the pc at the same time using a cloned camera...you can also store older recordings on it..

does it show as one large drive or two? I dont see any around 200! dam

This is a JBOD unit (Just a Bunch Of Disks). If you insert 2 or more drives in the device, EACH drive will be read as individual drive letters. In some cases, you might be able to use software to combine the drives so they show as a single drive letter, but that isn't what is done by default.

I agree with @fenderman on this though. Unless you already have a small form factor PC, why not just through the disks into the tower and use disk manager to setup the disks how you want them?

Looking at the reviews of the enclosure linked by the OP, it looks like all drives are presented individually and you have to span/RAID them in software.

Why not just buy a Synology device or something? You can find them used locally on Craigslist if you're lucky, but otherwise eBay has them.
