LPR failed

I am still testing on my nighttime LPR, what I came across was when vehicles are passing by continuously a bit close at night the headlight reflects light on the front vehicle and LPR capture fails, need help.

you can see the white honda plate completely going off in the video.

attached herewith is the lpr of the first vehicle going away. you can see the difference.

Is there a ton of ambient light there? 1/2000 and able to see that much doesn't seem right even with the higher gain.

The white Honda plate simply was blinded/washed out by the vehicle behind bright headlights shining on the plate and just the wrong moment and the camera didn't register it.

These are not going to capture every plate either.

You need to add some contrast to it as well. I would lower gamma and some other parameters to darken it up a little and provide the contrast. At the speed those cars are going that shutter speed should be sufficient.

I agree it needs more zoom.

With this camera, you are recording/viewing licence plates, this is not ment to be an overview camera. On my camera, I have a pitch black view, I don't see anything.

They might just have an older plate that's worn away

With those plates you will get good reads in the day, but at night when using IR, its a lost cause. You can't win them all, so I'd call it good

I do think you need a lot more zoom though, I think you probably would have got it then. Faster shutter speed would help too

It can also help to max out the bit rate, if it is not already.

It’s on max zoom, the headlight reflection blinds the camera, hope the settings beat this issue.

As in the video I am talking about the white Honda. Failed to capture license plate.

The day time is very good, I am pushing on max use of the camera @ night.

Very good, I am using the nvr firmware.
I have openalpr but wanted to use the camera firmware and push for max quality with the setting to get clear image so openalpr have easy time reading the plate.

There will be some plates that it just won't get. There was a split second where that plate was almost completely washed out and if the camera was processing it at that time, it will miss it.

Adding more contrast should help that, but it is a balancing act. Very few will get 100%, not even high end toll cameras on some highways.

One of my neighbors just asked me, if I have a footage with a black VW Passat, because she was robbed. She was selling her laptop in front of her house, and after handing over the laptop, the other person just drove away.
Here it is my picture. Police is looking for this car, right now.

its quite bright, also i have had it run on color mode at night and got pretty clear plates.
i did increase contrast, pretty decent results.

Yes of course, she was caught very fast, thanks to my picture. My neighbors were amazed by my picture. I also got the rear of the car, because she went back on the same street(idiot).
It was a 2021 VW Passat, a rental car. Police went to the rental company, and they got all the info they needed.
